Agency Spotlight Series: Catrin Hughes

In this Orientation Marketing agency spotlight series, we speak to Digital Marketing Executive, Catrin Hughes.

Occasionally, we speak to a member of the Orientation Marketing team to learn more about their roles at Orientation Marketing, as well as what makes them tick.

Today we speak to Catrin.

Tell Us a Little Bit About Your Role At Orientation Marketing.

I work within the digital team at Orientation Marketing. Given that I am the most recent addition to the digital team, I guess you could say I’m the newbie in the digital team! My role mainly focuses on working alongside Gareth, Rayan, and Lucy on creating and managing LinkedIn Ad campaigns, email marketing and managing/overseeing Google Ads for clients, but I generally jump onto anything digital that’s thrown my way! I support campaign setup, optimization, reporting, and anything else the team or clients need.

What is your favourite part of the working day?

Honestly, I really enjoy our team meetings. I join in on both the digital team meeting and the wider company meeting, and it’s just a nice chance for everyone to get together. We share wins, talk through ideas, and help each other out through any challenges. It’s also a good way to connect with the remote team members, and overall, it just feels positive and collaborative.

How did you come about working in Marketing?

So, taking it back a bit — I studied psychology at university, which is pretty much the science of behaviour. At the same time, I was growing my own travel/hiking influencer pages on Instagram and Facebook. After graduating, I ended up landing a marketing job where I got paid to do that exact same thing, but just for companies instead of my own page! From there, I learned the ins and outs of all social platforms, including LinkedIn and also grew my knowledge around PPC, Google Ads (which is now my favourite PPC platform out of all of them!), and just built my skills up from there really! When I saw the role come up at OM, I literally thought, “Ahh this is perfect!” - science and marketing all in one place. And that’s how I ended up here!

Tell us about your best day at the agency so far...

One of my favourite work days was actually in my first week. The company was running a fundraiser raffle for Dave Day, and one of my first tasks was to go around Chester handing out leaflets and posters with another team member. We spent an hour or so running around town in the sunny June weather, popping into as many bars and restaurants as we possibly could, chatting to people promoting the raffle draw and getting all of our leaflets out. What a way to work on the tan, while getting the job done eh!

What inspires you?

Honestly, I’m really inspired by progress. I love seeing how small, consistent actions can turn into big results over time. Whether it’s watching a clients’ PPC campaigns gradually improve, building a new skill bit by bit, or even seeing personal goals outside of work start to pay off, that kind of steady growth is what motivates me. It reminds me that you don’t need huge leaps to get somewhere; you just need direction, patience, and momentum. As Dory says in ‘Finding Nemo’ – Just keep swimming!

Recommend a book you recently read.

Oooh I’d definitely recommend Mission Possible: A Decade of Living Dangerously by Ash Dykes. It’s definitely one to pick up if you’re into survival/adventure or Bear Grylls-type stuff! Makes me want to grab my tent and rucksack and head off into the wild haha! Or maybe ‘A Walk in The Woods’ by Bill Bryson – I can’t decide! Love me a good hiking book - If you’re reading this and have any other similar books to recommend – you know where I am!

How would you spend a million dollars in 24 hours?

The first thing I’m doing is buying a cherry-red Mustang GT. That’s non-negotiable. After that, I’d max out my Stocks & Shares ISA and buy a nice variety of high dividend paying stocks, because if you’ve suddenly got money, you might as well put it to work for you! Then I’d head straight to a property auction, buy a couple of do-er-upper houses, and use whatever’s left for a really nice meal – maybe a Michelin star dinner! After the 24 hours are up, I’d be renovating the houses and renting them out. Long-term win secured!

If you had a yacht, what would you name it?

“Wanderlust.” Because if I had a yacht, I’d be disappearing to every country possible!

What skill do you think everyone should learn?

I genuinely think everyone should learn basic financial literacy. Being only in my mid 20’s now, I am so grateful and glad that I had the opportunity to learn financial literacy so young. I feel like everyone should learn about budgeting, saving, compound interest, investing, credit cards, and how anyone can build wealth over time. It’s one of those skills that completely changes your life once you get it. Suddenly you feel more in control, less stressed, and way more confident making money decisions — whether that’s choosing a mortgage, starting an ISA, or planning for the future. And honestly, the earlier you learn it, the more powerful it becomes!
