Agency Spotlight Series: Kirsten Rowley
In this Orientation Marketing agency spotlight series, we speak to Senior Designer, Kirsten Rowley.
Occasionally, we speak to a member of the Orientation Marketing team to learn more about their roles at Orientation Marketing, as well as what makes them tick.
Today we speak to Kirsten.
Tell Us a Little Bit About Your Role At Orientation Marketing.
As the Senior Designer, my role consists of working with clients to roll out brands or refresh existing ones, ensuring visual and verbal content is perfectly tailored to the audience, and consistently applied across every touchpoint. From whitepapers and social posts to event collateral and animation, I help established brands push their creative further, to capture attention and build stronger connections.
What does your average day look like?
Every day is different, but it generally starts a little chaotically as I get ready for the day and try to get my toddler ready for nursery while he runs around the house. After drop off, I wander to the office, sit down with a coffee and do some mindfulness before setting up at my desk. I will then spend most of my day in various Adobe software while jumping in and out of meetings. In the afternoon I will always have a Coke (from the can) for a little pick me up. The afternoon pick me up and morning coffee are probably the most consistent things in my day!
What is your favourite part of the working day?
When I am working with others in the team. Whether that’s an official meeting, or just a quick chat to try and solve a problem, there is something fulfilling about collaboration, having a sense of achievement while also learning about other people’s skills and way of thinking.
How did you come about working in this Industry?
I would say I have always been creative, but it wasn’t until applying to university that it really cemented my career path. I was studying a wide range of A-Levels, and Graphic Design was ultimately the subject I both could do all day and was good at. I graduated university, went straight into the industry and ultimately never left!
What are the toughest challenges you’ve had at work?
The amount of people in the office! I was freelancing before this and aside from client calls, I was used to my own company, so it was a bit of a shock to the system when I first joined. I’m pretty settled now.
Tell us about an interesting project you are working on right now.
One of our clients has recently implemented a company-wide rebrand, both visually and verbally, so I am working closing with our contact there and the team here to update all collateral in the new brand style. This started with fully understanding the new brand, the updated colours, fonts, layout and tone of voice and now I am currently applying the new style to everything from LinkedIn headers to exhibition stands!
Can you tell us about one of the most exCiting projects you have worked on at the agency..
I do love a rebrand. Another client had quite a dramatic rebrand and certainly visually stands out in our industry! It was really fun to push this new brand on applications as we knew the client wanted to be a disruptive competitor!
Recommend a TV series/film you recently watched.
I would say my TV watching falls into 3 categories: ‘rubbish TV ‘– also known as my easy watches, series on repeat and more intense ones. So, rubbish TV – I’m currently watching ‘High Potential’, my series on repeat is ‘The Good Place’ and I have just finished ‘Mobland’ for the intense category.
Recommend a video game/board game.
Wavelength! Or Cards Against Humanity but be careful who you play that one with!
What’s your favourite music genre?
Oh dear. Musicals and pop punk.
What was your favourite band 10 years ago?
Theory of a Deadman.
What skill do you think everyone should learn?
Mindfulness. We live in a fast-paced world so the ability to stop and be still is a skill that can completely reset your brain and body. It can make you feel great or help pull yourself together in an intense situation.
